Android 10 released with incredible 50+ changes and new features

The wait ends here as Google has finally dropped the bomb by releasing its Android 10 – formerly known as Android Q. The update is available only on Google’s own Pixel phones as of now.  

However, it is believed that it will soon be available for the devices formerly supported during the beta phase.

Because Google kept the whole update process open to the public by releasing beta versions, there aren’t any big surprises in the final update. Chances are you will have to look hard before realizing any changes the update has brought. 

However, there are several tweaks and improvements introduced in the Android 10 that might impress you along with many new features that are hidden from plain eyes, at least when they were in betas. 

So, let’s move on to the foray of the remarkable changes Android 10 comes loaded with.

Changes in the UI

  1. Dark theme all across the system – Associated menus and darker apps can be accessed by notification toggle 
  2. Upgraded emergency power menu- It comprises an updated icon that is more universal than the previous one.
  3. Added Device uptime – The current uptime of the device can be viewed since its first power-on, which has also been added to Settings> About phone
  4. Colored icons for connected Bluetooth devices –  Now every connected Bluetooth device will have a pastel-colored icon for easy management 
  5. Data usage UI changes – There are more informative charts and app data usage information available
  6. Better APK installer UI- It follows the rest of Android 10 UI improvements
  7. Redesigned Password Autofill – It follows the dark theme setting and has rounded corners
  8. New added gestures – Back sensitivity gestures that enable adjustment of the sensitivity of the back gesture
  9. Updated share menu – Includes more app sharing options and a new Material Theme
  10. Added ‘Permissions Manager’ – Enables you to manage and control all individual app permissions with access to your device data and sensors
  11. Revamped UI – Adaptive Notifications now come with a revamped settings UI.

Changes in the Usability 

  1. Added native Screen recorder – You do not have to install a secondary screen recording app now to share the device display
  2. Chat bubbles- App notifications now have chat bubbles that can be activated from within Developer Settings to imitate Facebook chat heads for all kinds of notifications
  3. Scrubber bar in the notification shade- Now comes for the media that can be accessed from the notification shade to scrub forward or backward within audio for more fine control
  4. Easy Wi-Fi connectivity – You only need to scan a QR code to connect or share your Wi-Fi network with others
  5. Audio balance – Adjust audio balance from left to right for an optimal audio experience from the accessibility settings
  6. Focus mode- Copycat Zen Mode enables you to block access to selected apps for a particular amount of time.
  7. Disable device sensors via Quick settings  – Immediately disable every device sensor such as GPS, proximity sensor, etc.
  8. Vibration while selecting Text  – When you will choose any text, your phone will now vibrate 
  9. Quick Settings  now moves the edit button along with carrier name
  10. Pull up more options via an indicator in the File picker 
  11. Sleep setting renamed as Screen timeout – Though the settings and options remain unchanged
  12.  You will find the Silent notifications from now on at the end of the notification shade 
  13. Long press notifications options – More options for silencing, editing settings, etc.
  14. Pop-up panel for notification channels – Allows you to instantly change the app notification settings
  15.  QR code for easy Wi-Fi password sharing – Easily share your Wi-Fi network details and password via a QR code or the previously entered text passcode
  16. Upgraded battery saver – More options to set the Battery Saver mode at a certain battery level 
  17. Automatically disabled Battery saver mode – Battery saver automatically disables why your phone reached a 90% battery level
  18. Main Camera UI now comes with Night Sight 
  19. Image preview option in Share Sheet – You can now get a small preview of the images you are sharing
  20. Shortcut for Volume settings pops up a panel in the slider- On-screen modifications can be made for several audio settings without entering the device Settings
  21. Previews for live wallpapers – It enables full-screen preview of live wallpapers before the application
  22. Active Edge feedback modifications– Now on-screen animations will show you more precise pressure activation information
  23. Disabled notification snoozing by default – Only need to swipe left on a notification in the notification shade which will only show settings icon; it can be re-activated within the Settings
  24. Hints as an assistant gesture – Hints as a small semi-circle will be displayed in the bottom left and right corners when you have enabled navigation Gestures. By swiping diagonally you can activate the Google Assistant.
  25. New audio output in a pop-up menu – Volume overflow menu now enables selecting current audio output in a pop-up menu
  26. Enables Smart Reply – Now, contextual smart replies are available everywhere across all apps

Exterior changes

  1. Battery life predictions- In the quick settings, top right corner you can see an estimate of the battery lifespan
  2. Themes from Android Q Beta 1- Change your Pixel theme accent, font sizes, styles, icon shape and more
  3. Bolder At A Glance widget on Pixel Launcher
  4. Haul lock icon on the lock screen
  5. Grayscale Settings for individual apps – As New Digital Wellbeing update’s part, it now allows modifying grayscale settings for individual apps
  6. Revamped App info page – It provides a more systematic page with key information in headers with the app icon
  7. More music info during playback by Ambient Display- It displays organized information on artists, songs, and albums.
  8. New icons for battery and Wi-Fi – These icons are hollow looking and fill only when signal strength or battery capacity changes
  9. Added Profile picture in the Settings
  10. Redesigned Emergency information page – It allows you to add a profile image
  11. Newly added enter key on lock screen – This colored ‘enter’ key will follow any device accent themes
  12. New recent notifications bell icon – Recent notifications will have a small ‘bell’ icon from now on
  13. Boot animation in Dark theme – It can be changed to a light theme via system settings
  14. Fast rotation button is now darker 
  15. Files app and Google Wallpapers now come with new Material Theme
  16. Now, Gboard alters and adjusts according to your accent theme
  17. Squeeze to talk as a part of Active Edge – A pop-up message will show up
  18. to invite you to ‘Squeeze to talk’ and enable the Google Assistant
  19. New tone while ending a call
