AMC Theatre is the first among any theatre chain to have taken steps in the direction of on-demand video streaming business.
The company has launched its Video-on-demand service today via the website and AMC mobile app for both App Store and Play Store and will be made available to the members of the AMC Stubs customer loyalty program.
AMC certainly is going to redefine entertainment with its mobile app.
AMC company has achieved this by partnering up with all the Hollywood studios giants such as Disney, Universal, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, Paramount, and Sony. Together, they will create a catalog of almost 2000 movies to be provided in the video-on-demand service to AMC’s members for buying and renting after launch.
Ron Sanders, president of worldwide distribution and home entertainment at Warner said “Most of our other big digital partners are focused on multiple categories — music, books. The great thing about AMC is that movies are the whole focus.”
What is more, the AMC Theatres On-demand service will offer members, who rent or buy a Lionsgate or Paramount film as their first movie, the opportunity to choose three more films from the studio for free. The service is up for grabs via AMC’s website and mobile app as well.
The CEO of AMC Theatres, Adam Aron said “With more than 20 million AMC Stubs households, and with our website and smartphone apps already being visited hundreds of millions of times annually by movie fans, AMC Theatres is in a unique position to promote specific movies with greater personalization than has ever been possible before,”and that “Through the launch of AMC Theatres On Demand, we can reach movie lovers directly and make it easy for them to access films digitally.”
For Adam Aron, this newly launched service is “perfect sense” for AMC for it will not only provide the members with additional service but will also encourage them to go to the movies more in order to make use of the loyalty program.
To make the streaming service an instant hit, the company is also resorting to a cross-platform marketing partnership with, none other than, AMC Networks. The deal comprises of AMC Theatres on-demand service promoting AMC Network’s streaming services like Sundance Now, Acorn TV, etc, while AMC Network will catalog its IFC and RJLE films in the service catalog.
This is what the CEO of AMC Networks Ed Carroll had to say on this partnership: “This is a great opportunity for us to both make our film titles available to movie customers and also increase awareness of our growing streaming services, which are all focused on specific genres and content categories fans are passionate about,”
He also said: “If you are a fan of horror, or British drama, that interest translates to the television screen, the movie theatre, the phone or anywhere anyone can consume content today. We look forward to working with AMC Theatres to make their new in-home movie service even more appealing to fans through access to our film libraries and also raise awareness of our hyper-focused streaming services among their millions of customers.”
The films available on the streaming service will roughly cost between $3 to $5.99 for renting and $9.99 to $19.99 if you wish to buy.
AMC’s on-demand service incorporated with mobile app development has raised many expectations of the users and is assumed to reach the benchmark of 1 million users by the year 2020.
