Nearly a year after it was announced by Adobe team. Photoshop is finally available on iPad.

Termed as ‘Real Photoshop’, the 1.0 version of Photoshop on iPad comes loaded with a string of features that would make designers switch between desktop and iPad anytime.

It is not just the easy cross-platform ability that has made designers excited but also its new name.

Rather than calling it the official ‘Photoshop for iPad’, the Adobe Creative Cloud team has named it ‘Real Photoshop’.

The reason behind this chic new name is that although the app is meant for streamlining workflows and perform lightweight edits, it is created from the same codebase as the original Photoshop.

“This is the beginning,” said Pam Clark, Photoshop product manager, “The first version of Photoshop on iPad is focused on common tasks and workflows that we know will be useful for most Photoshop users.”

The Real Photoshop version 1.0 enables designers to easily make small edits in their designs while sitting on a couch or in some coffee shop. Also, it supports Apple Pencil and provide an opportunity to reap the benefits of Cloud storage. Meaning, designers can now upload, download, or share their designs on cloud, which lowers down the risk of memory shortage and enhance their productivity.

What’s more? the real Photoshop will also work offline, giving the web and mobile app designers freedom to unlock their creativity anytime and find all those edits saved on their device when connected back to the Internet.

Now, while these are the Real Photoshop features that are making designers feel ecstatic, the tool is still not perfect like the official one. It misses out various tools and functionality, with pen tool being on the top of the list. That means, designers still have to turn towards their desktop version to create complex selections and edits.

However, this is just the beginning. As shared by the team, the Real Photoshop will get updates frequently to match the desires of iOS app design and development companies and get closer to the official Photoshop standard.

“We’re not going to try to get 30 years of features and unload them on a brand new customer, on a brand new platform, from day one,” said Scott Belsky, Photoshop Chief Product Manager, “Instead, we’re going to rethink the evolution of some of these features.” Photoshop on the iPad may not be “full” Photoshop yet, but it is real.

Additionally, the Adobe team also announced that Illustrator will also land on the iPads soon, which will surely boost the designers’ work on iPads.

So, it is still a favorable choice for designers to start using Photoshop on your iPads. Something for which you need to fulfill either of the following two conditions:-

  • Having Adobe’s Creative Cloud subscription. When you have this subscription, you can use the iPad app for free and even use the new ‘Sign In with Apple’ feature.
  • You can try the app for free for 30 days, but will have to pay $9.99 monthly to access both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom.
