Google has announced the launch of Android P Beta 3 with an early release candidate build that comes with near-final system behaviors.
While the tech giant had already shortlisted the APIs in the previous beta release, this time around they have made no major changes in terms of software look and feel. Android P Beta 3 is all about bug fixes and low-level improvements.
[Know about The Android P features that would Change the Complete Outlook of the Android App Development Industry]
Marking the Android P release date on 2nd July, Google will soon be rolling out the updated beta on Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 2, Pixel XL, and Pixel in a few days.
While the users of these devices have found their reason to rejoice, the Android app developers who were waiting to try their hand at the new OS version have a reason to get excited too.
In the Android P Beta 3 update, they are given finalized APIs through which they can build and test their mobile apps. Along with this, there are a number of system tools that have now been made available such as – multi-camera support, display cutout, enhanced notifications, and ImageDecoder.
You can get the latest update on your device by enrolling yourself here. In case you already enrolled and now have Android P Beta 2 on your device, you will get the new update automatically.
Agencies that have participated in the Beta program will also get to update their devices in the coming weeks.
The first thing that you will have to do is make app compatible and give the users a seamless transition to Android P. For that, you will have to install your present app from the Play Store on the Android P Beta device or the emulator and test it.
During the test, ensure that the app is running great and that it is handling the behavior changes exactly as it is supposed to.
Once you have made all the necessary updates, publish the app to the Play Store without amending the platform’s targeting.
In case you do not have any supported Android P device, you can set an Android Virtual Device in the Android Emulator for the test environment.
Using Emulator is a great option as you will get a platform that is incredibly fast, lets you model next-generation screens, and boots up in less than 6 seconds.
Next, update the app’s target SDK Version to 28 so that the Android P users of your application could benefit from the advanced security, stability, and performance features. Also, ensure that your app is ready for the non-SDK interfaces as well and then try new StrictMode process to hold the accesses programmatically.
When you are ready with the app updates, publish the APK that is targeting API 28. Uploading an update in the Preview mode allows you to push the updates to the present users and enable them to test the compatibility on their mobile devices.
Tip: To ensure that your updated app runs efficiently on both Android P and other old versions, use Google Play Beta Testing Feature, with it you will be able to get an early feedback from real Android users, which would include the users who have already made the Android P Beta 3 download on their devices.
