Apple Comes Out With a Mobile App For Its Developers

If you were also under the impression that Apple is only fixated on the needs of its users, then this piece of news may be a surprise for you. 

Today, Apple is launching a dedicated Apple Developer mobile application for over 23 million registered members of Apple’s developer community. This app will be launched in the worldwide markets, however, the membership management tools will only be available in the US initially.

This new app is actually an expansion on Apple’s current Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) app and may replace it altogether.

To answer the questions like why is this app needed at all? Or what will it provide which previous WWDC app didn’t?- the app will expand from giving just information and updates about the developer events to including other relevant resources such as design and technical articles, news and updates, videos and so on.

What is more, the app will also provide the opportunity for developers to enroll in the Apple Developer program and extend their membership by paying via Apple Pay straight from the mobile app. We can already see mobile app development companies feeling motivated by this initiative and are sure to come out with innovations inspired by this initiative.

The information related to Apple developers that used to reach them from different mediums via emails or spread across the Apple website can now be accessed on a single and streamlined mobile app experience.

Though at launch, this app may not include everything you are expecting which is available on the Apple website, however, those things will be added with time.

Initially, the app will offer technical information, more than 600 videos, etc.

In fact, the content on the Apple Developer app is arranged and segregated in four sections, namely- 

• Discover, which is for searching developer info., news, and updates
• Videos section where you will find all the videos that once were on WWDC
• WWDC for event attendees
• And lastly, Account for developers to manage their account and membership

Because a website is a vast space to gather every little information, Apple wanted to provide its developers with a platform where accessing this information was easy and real-time. The Apple Developer app will enable the users to watch WWDC session videos and also view the WWDC schedule. 

It could be conjured that with this launch, Apple is trying to expand its focus to global Apple developers. For instance, in 2018, the Apple developer community in Indonesia increased its membership by 60% after the opening of two Developer Academy institutions in 2019, in Brazil it grew by 50% in 2019, in India 45%, UK 40%, France 30%, Italy 28%, and China 17%. 

So, delivering a concise application that delivers every information that an Apple developer may need is going to help them in numerous ways.

The Apple Developer app will be made available on iOS, also including Apple Watch and iMessage.
